Is there an alternative medicine for spironolactone?
I have PCOS, I went to a specialist and was put on spironolactone along with another medicine. The thing is, I have a very hard time taking pills as it is,but spironolactone has a strong spearmint smell flavor to it, which I've always hated. It became a twice daily struggle, no matter what techniques I tried, to get the medicine down without getting sick or nearly sick, so much so that I stopped taking it all together. My symptoms have come back, worse than ever so I have to go back on some kind of medicine. I want to know is there a non flavored form or alternative to spironolactone I can talk to my doctor about? I'm hoping that if I have some info when I go, I won't get the basic " Nothing else we can do, so suck it up and take the medicine" talk

How do I go about seeking education for alternative medicine?
Right now I'm going into my second year of college and I'm looking to change my major or even transfer. I was a business major the first year but I've had a spiritual awakening and homeopathic studies, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, are all an interest to me. So what should I change my major to? There isn't an alternative medicine major at my school. Do I have to study biology first and then go to a special homeopathic school?Do all homeopathic schools require me to be a doctor first? get the biology degree at my college and then go to medical school and THEN go to a homeopathic school ???I'm kind of lost on how to go about with this career I've been asking everyone I know, thanksdid anyone answer my question? i had a spiritual awakening in the sense that i cannot be involved with worldly things especially business there are no morals in it..nothing is natural anymore... i want to get into natural medicine our bodies and the things in nature can help us .. thats where the spiritual awakening comes into play... this is something i am passionate about i am just asking how do i go about pursuing my career? please stop judging me

Has anyone out there have polycythemia vera and been cured with alternative medicine?
Traditional Western treatment uses a drug that ultimately causes leukemia. I have seen websites in Europe that use Chinese or Indian herbs that claim to help and heal this disease. My dear friend is afflicted and I am sure there is a better treatment using alternative, holistic medicine than the current western treatment of phlebotomy and a chemo type drug. The body produces too many red blood cells, and platelets resulting in too much iron and very thickened blood in this condition. The websites for herbal cures were in Europe.

Has anyone cleared their acne through alternative medicine?
And if so, what did that consist of? diet, products, etc.

Are people who practice alternative medicine successful just because they spend more time with their patients?
The pro pharma group keep propogating that the reason people get better is because we spend more time with patients and they only get better because they beleive they are going to. Consequently anything we do is a sham and worthless. If all is needed is to spend more time with patients, why don't the medical profession do this? They would have people getting better in droves surely?Being a Non US trained Osteopath I have a very different opinion to this.....Your thoughts please.....Thank you for your comments so far.If its true that all we do thats better than what your lot do why do we need to train for as long?If its a case of just spending more time and being nice to patients it wouldn't be necessary to train everybody that see's patients that go through the health system as doctors.A years training on case history taking, basic pathologies, soft skills, and laying on of hand would be more than adequate. This would free up so much time for these over stretched doctors....So much so that many of them would actually be redundant I can accept that part of my treatments success involves laying my hands on them but everyone knows there is more to it than that including the medical profession. This is why in the UK every initiative to take pressure off Doctors who always complain they are over stretched WHICH HAS NOT COME FROM the doctors them selves has always been met by resistance from doctors. The real iss ue is about power and protecting markets. If all I needed to do was lay hands on people I wouldn't have trained for 4 years. I would have become a church minister. That would depend on your definition of " successful" . Getting patients symptoms free or helping them reduce chronic symptoms to manageable levels That would be successful to me. I notice you are now putting yourself and osteopathy squarely in the alt med camp. Yes. Our way of thinking is very different to the medical profession. We don't claim to have all the answers or to be a complete system of medicine though.Lo mcg, It sounds like you needed counselling at the time rather than homeopathy.Anybody. You are probably right our ideas may not be so disimilar.I also agree that someone being nice might make you feel a little better but its not going to help that acute disc bulge, that subluxed rib, that fact lock, that piriformis syndrome etc.etc.. Those patients actually need some treatment Rhianna, My apologies for the term Pro Pharma. Anti Altmed would have been more appropriate. If the medical profession genuinely thought that spending time with people and being nice to them was all it took, swathes of people would be trained as I suggested to free up time for doctors. The reason why this initiative, which would save the NHS a mile of cash every year, is not engaged is because there is so much more to Patient wellness than this. Everyone knows it.We do not underestimate the power of placebo. Anyone who works in healthcare knows that a patient wanting to get well is critical for them to actually do so.Ever met anyone who 'died of a broken heart'?This is metaphorical but people do come up who are so unhappy for whatever reason, they loose their will to live, subsequently become sick and die. Usually there was nothing wrong with them to start with. The " Nocebo" effect can also be extra ordinarily powerful. Rhianna. I guess we can't win. If all we do is placebo and help people with self limiting conditions surely you should be pleased we are taking work off overstretched doctors? You should be thanking US If all we do is help people who would have got better anyway we seem to do it better than you. So again why complain about what we do?NB. You are anti altmed. You don't want a level playing field you want us not to exist so that you can dominate the market. Remember you work for the patient not the other way round. If the patient wants to march on the spot in suet going in an anti clockwise direction, if it is safe to do so why stop them?Even if its useless, if that floats their boat let them get on with it.I'm going to let this one go to the vote as i can't decide who has the best answer.Edit Haven't you previously stated that you measure success by returning customers? Erm, no not really.People re injure themselves and they come back to me if I've done a good job. I had a plumber repair a leaky sink. I was impressed with him so he did my central heating installation. Most of my work comes from recommendations because I've done a good job and DISCHARGED a patient who is a friend or colleague of theirs.Of course there is always a list of people who need ongoing maintenance treatment periodically because they have underlying conditions such as Osteo arthritis which needs treatment as it is a degenerative condition. The same could be said for Doctors who prescribe blood pressure meds, statins or warfarin which need repeat prescriptions.Doctors also prescribe anti biotics with the view of resolving whatever they have prescribed it for. These people are likely to pick up another bacterial infection at some point in their lives. You are anti altmed Rhianna and you know it.Look up the Osteopathic principles on wikipedia. They hold water and are plausible. Tell me what you disagree with?I'm going to ask you again Rhianna, Look up the Osteopathic principles on wikipedia. They hold water and are plausible. Tell me what you disagree with?
